Love is in the air

The Polar Vortex may be upon us, but that’s no reason to avoid heating things up for Valentine’s Day. All this cold weather is making me even more excited to make a reservation some place cozy, sip some red wine, toast the people I love and celebrate romance. I’m all for trying new spots, but on Valentine’s Day I stick with the places that have always had my heart. Whether you’re planning a romantic date, a fun Galentine or Dude-entine’s soiree, or a chocolate-laced Netflix binge, here are a few suggestions you’ll love.

Dinner: Want to feel like you’re in a David Lynch film eating decadent food?  L’Opossum is a must-go, steal-your-heart, funky and delicious kind of place. Just reading the menu is a treat, from the Fee Fi Foe, Fee Fi Faux Pho to the Swashbuckling Bundt Pirate, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. This is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner.

Dessert: Shyndigz! whether you’re looking to indulge with your girlfriends, cozy up for a romantic shared slice of pie, or just take your sugar fix home, Shyndigz is an awesome spot to satisfy your Valentine’s sweet tooth. If your date doesn’t like the Salted Chocolate Caramel Cake, it might be time to move on… after all, a person’s taste in music and dessert are windows to the soul.

Selfie Central: Want to show some class with some Vivien Leigh sass? The Jefferson is one of my favorite places to grab a special occasion cocktail, find that special nook or cranny and coyly smile for the camera. Weather permitting, Maymont is another great spot for a Valentine’s stroll and a cute picture. The Japanese and Italian gardens provide some of the most romantic backdrops in RVA.
