Leave a Mint On Your Pillow

Leave a Mint On Your Pillow

If you find yourself looking for things to do in the next few months, it’s always fun to act like a tourist in your own town. Check into your guest room and chase the winter blues away with a visit to any of these locations.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is always worth a visit, short or long. Get acquainted with their After 5 Fridays program, featuring a different program each Friday ranging from live music,  dance, to guided tours of the galleries. All free, and drink specials start at 5:30 at Best Cafe. Take your sweetie, or meet a sweetie at the VMFA.

Pro tip for garden planning, if a garden looks great when the weather is at its worst, that’s a garden you want to copy. The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden has seasonal garden tours each month, the next is February 6th. It’s a great opportunity to stroll the grounds with an expert and check out the plants and gardens that still look good in winter.

If it’s been a while since you’ve checked out some live music, RVA is lucky to have an excellent music venue like The National on Broad Street. Check out the calendar for upcoming shows, choices range from The Legwarmers, the ultimate 80’s tribute band on February 16th, to a live Led Zeppelin experience on March 29th. Big hair is recommended for both performances.

Grab someone worthy of your company and get a cupcake and coffee at Pearl’s Bake Shoppe on Patterson Avenue, or take a brewery tour at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. To escape the weather head to Escape Room RVA and spend an hour with your racing heart deciphering clues to your freedom. And finally, when it’s been one of those days and dry January is in the rear view mirror, drop in at The Jasper for a well crafted cocktail.

And finally, if you really want to nail the tourist experience, take a food tour by Discover Richmond of Carytown, the Arts District, Scott’s Addition or Church Hill. Each tour lasts three hours and ranges from $70-$80. Trip Advisor rates this as the number one thing to do in Richmond for food and drink.

Be sweet to each other, it’s cold out there!
