Repair… or get it out of there!

The start of the year is a great time to commit to repairs that you’ve been putting off. Sometimes a piece you hate to part with may need some serious work to get it back in shape and restore its value. If you can’t toss it and it’s not getting the use it deserves, then fix it. Finding craftsmen and artisans with the skill to restore precious antiques and artwork has gotten harder and harder, but if you live in Richmond you are in luck.

Walking into Colonial Plating Shop is like taking a step back in time. Steven and David create a family-like atmosphere (the shop was started by Steven’s grandfather) and they love to chat about their collection of lighting-related treasures. This local gem has been around since 1955. Unique restoration projects of a wide variety are right up their alley, from repairing your great-grandmother’s cracked candelabra to polishing up your brother’s vintage motorcycle bumper. Steven, a talented silversmith, promises careful treatment of cherished pieces. “If it’s silver, brass, bronze, pewter, copper, and you want it repaired, refinished, or polished, bring it here.”

These guys can handle just about any repair that involves rewiring and restoration. Follow them on Facebook to see their most recent projects or visit them at 9 S 1st Street, Richmond. 804.648.6276.
