Spring Flings

Warm temperatures, more sunshine, and blooming flowers put a ‘spring’ in my step… pun intended! With winter months in the rear view mirror, mark your calendar for events that carry you across scenic Virginia. There are so many cultural and culinary gems in every part of our state, you may have to start planning into next year! Here are a few of the destinations where you can find me this spring:

And Then There Were None: Join the The Westmoreland Players March 2-17 for a haunting performance of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None.  This lively regional theater was named the best in Eastern Virginia in 2018 and is just a short drive from RVA. Tickets to the performance are $25.

Colonial Beach Artists Guild Walk: What better way to enjoy springtime temperatures than by strolling waterside through galleries and shops? Check out the work of local artists on the Second Friday of each month with the Colonial Beach Artists Guild Walk. Enjoy this free and family-friendly event – you may even spot a new masterpiece for your home.

Foxfield Races: Dust off your Derby hat, don your seersucker, and pack your finest tailgating gear! This annual equestrian fete happens in Charlottesville on April 27th. The horse races are a veritable springtime ritual, drawing a boisterous crowd and celebrating spring against the backdrop of Virginia’s beautiful Piedmont region. Tickets and parking passes must be purchased in advance; for a less rowdy experience, avoid the student section.

Tasting Room and Tap House at Mount Ida Reserve: A chic destination for wine and beer lovers, the Tasting Room and Tap House at Mount Ida has a huge, cozy lounge filled with round tables and overstuffed chairs where you can snack on apps and sip fine beverages. There’s a wide bar with plenty of space for group tastings. Best of all, there’s a huge covered patio, complete with a cozy outdoor fireplace and breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge.
