2020

You can’t help but get a little excited at the start of a new year, particularly when it’s the start of a new decade. But, do you know what I’m absolutely thrilled about? For the first time in 20 years, I finally know what to call the decade I’m living in. The twenties. I love that—so clean, so precise. Just looked this up, and unbeknownst to me, the last ten years have been the twenty-tens. Rolls off the tongue doesn’t it? Ten years before that, says the Google, we had the aughts. An entire decade that meant zilch.

A little icing on the cake is that we start this decade with 20/20! After twenty years of vagueness, we finally have a year standing for acuity. Don’t judge, but to me the universe has just unveiled a giant sign saying “Dude. Take a good look around, pretty cool, right?” Which I completely appreciate since I missed that the “aught” years was its way of saying you aught to buy Amazon and Apple stock right now. Live and learn.

So, this year I’m going to take a hint from the universe and try and wave away the smoke and distractions that come with this complicated life we’re all living, and work on focusing on what really counts. I’m not sure exactly where that path is going to lead, but if I find myself watching less cat videos, and more time talking to friends, I’ll probably be heading in the right direction. May your new year be filled with new discoveries, hope and joy, friends and belly laughs. I’ll see you in the ‘20’s.
