A Guy Walks Into A Museum With A Byrd Under His Arm

In the post-holiday doldrums? Here are some places you can visit that are guaranteed to lift your spirits.

-When is the last time you laughed so hard that your sides ached? If it’s been too long, try one of Richmond’s comedy clubs.

Funny Bones is a comedy club featuring nationally known comedians, and offers dinner and drinks on site. Open Wednesday-Sunday at 11800 W. Broad St.

Coalition Theatre is one of Richmond’s best kept secrets. Great live performances, and they also offer classes on improvisation and stand-up. Their bar is well stocked and reasonably priced. Open Wednesday-Saturday, located in Jackson Ward at 8 W. Broad Street.

CSz offers family friendly comedy, showcasing improv comedy shows. Open Friday and Saturday at 8906 West Broad Street.

-A great way to beat the winter blues is a trip to the The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. One of the best art museums in the country is minutes away. Stroll around on our own, or take one of the free daily walk-in tours. As my Grandma used to say, a little time with art is always good for the heart. At least I think she was talking about the museum…her favorite UPS driver was named Arthur. Hmmm.

-It doesn’t matter what’s playing, a trip to the Byrd Theater is a great mood lifter. The decor, the history, the mighty Worlitzer! One of my favorite things about Richmond.
