A veritable Richmond institution, The Valentine Museum’s name evokes February’s famed holiday and it’s a great spot to add to your list of cultural sites to visit this winter and throughout the year. In fact named for Mann S. Valentine, Jr., an entrepreneur and philanthropist whose generosity bequeathed the museum way back in 1893, today’s Valentine collects and preserves artifacts and items that illustrate the history and culture of Richmond and the surrounding region. With more than a look back at history, the museum encourages thoughtful exploration of current events through the context of our past.

The Valentine Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; admission is $10 for adults, $8 for children.
