Go Forth, Go Fourth

Go Forth, Go Fourth

Looking for some fun in July? Here are a few suggestions for celebrating the 4th of July, and other ways to have fun this month.

Fourth of July fireworks around Richmond

RVA Fireworks on the James at Forest Hill Park, July 4th from 6:00-10:30, 4021 Forest Hill Avenue.

Dogwood Dell concert and fireworks. Music includes jazz from Simply Kevin, a Carillon bell concert and patriotic music by the Richmond Concert Band. Music starts at 5:45, fireworks at 9:00. Bring a chair and a picnic.

Independence Day celebration and dueling fireworks with the Richmond Squirrels at the Diamond, 301 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard. Gates open at 4:30, game starts at 6:05.

Fourth of July Celebration at Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10300 Courthouse Road in Chesterfield. This free event features The Deloreans, a showband covering music from the 1980’s. Gates open at 5:00, fireworks start at dark.

Relax on Thursday nights at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens’ Flowers after 5 events. Triple Crossing Jazz is playing 5:00-8:00 on July 1st with music from the 30’s-the 60’s.

I know we’ve all been dying to get outside, but this is Virginia in July and air conditioning starts looking pretty good right now. There are wonderful events and classes at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts ranging from designing fashion to drawing to photography, and they sell out quickly. July’s offerings are pretty picked over at this point, so check them out now for things you’ll enjoy down the line.

I’ve waited all year for this one! The cheesiest event RVA has ever seen, the Richmond Mac and Cheese Festival. Top Chefs, food trucks and vendors will serve up over 30 kinds of mac and cheese. Complete with craft beers, wines, spirits and cider and featuring live music. July 24th, Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 East Laburnum Avenue.

Enjoy!
