Festivities of the Fall’n

Festivities of the Fall’n

October is always a good month for festivals and day trips. If you are in the mood to get out and enjoy the early Fall weather, here are a few suggestions…

The Richmond Folk Festival will celebrate it’s 17th anniversary downtown on the water from 2nd to 7th Streets. This is one of Virginia’s largest festivals, and draws fans who enjoy music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling and food. Running October 8th-10th, the five stages will showcase musicians and dancers from around the world.

Who can resist hanging out in a graveyard with crazy people this time of year? The 7th annual Fancy Me Mad gathering at St. John’s Church features a graveyard tour complete with historical characters performing in the cemetery, followed by a reading by Edgar Allen Poe in the church. October 23rd, 6:00-9:00 PM.

Scott’s Addition Pumpkin Festival returns on Saturday October 16th from 12:00-6:00. Located on Arthur Ashe Boulevard, there is something for everyone including live music, fall treats, and golden beverages from local breweries. Dogs and kids are welcome, and be sure to dress for the costume contest.

If you’re in the mood for a little fun with your tofu, check out the Richmond Veg Fest at Byrd Park on Saturday October 2nd from 12:00 to 6:00. Featuring food, music, speakers and family fun, it can’t be beet!

Always a regional favorite, Carter Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville is a great destination for checking out the changeling leaves while picking apples or perusing pumpkins. Located near Monticello and family run, it’s a fall favorite. Be sure to try their freshly made apple cider donuts while you are there.

While you are in the Charlottesville area, also drop by Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm in Crozet. They offer ready to pick fruits and vegetables in season, and are known for their fudge. Tired or carrying that pumpkin? Have a seat and enjoy a hard cider or wine tasting.

Boo, y’all!
