Along with the cooler weather comes the best season of the year– festival season in Richmond. There are so many to choose from, but here are a few that I never miss. All are free, family-friendly, and community-minded.

RVA Makerfest at the Science Museum of Virginia: October 6, 2018, 10-5. This festival features 75+ makers with specialties in art, music, sustainability, and more. There will be many demonstrations and activities, and the museum will be open to attendees. Local food and beer will be for sale on-site. Click here for more information.

Richmond Folk Festival: Brown’s Island, October 12-14. The folk festival has always been a highlight of the festival season for me. This year musicians, dancers, and artists of all kinds will showcase their talents throughout the weekend on 7 different stages. The many on-site venues ensure that there’s always a live performance happening, and there is sure to be something to appeal to everyone. Check it out!

Scott’s Addition Pumpkin Festival: On the Boulevard between Leigh Street and Broad Street, 12-6 October 20. This is a newer addition on the festival front. With a costume contest for grown-ups, pets, and kiddos, this one is fun for the whole family. Admission is free, and delicious snacks–many of them pumpkin-themed, and local beverages will be available for sale. There will also be live music for all six hours of the festival. Tune in here.
