Oyster season is upon us! The oyster is a beloved treasure of Virginia, especially since its population recovery in the Chesapeake Bay has restored abundant harvests. Did you know that one oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day? The oyster’s environment contributes to its flavor, which is one of the reasons our Chesapeake Bay variety is so prized.
The Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail hosts a special event every year that combines winery tastings with special oyster dishes. Held at individual vineyards along the
Wine Trail, there’s no need to purchase advance tickets. Just make time on your calendar on
November 9th and 10th to visit any of the eight participating wineries and indulge in their oyster pairings.
Oysters take center stage with wine, ale, and arts at Taste by the Bay on November 23rd. Hosted at the Tides Inn – an exquisite destination in any season – this pre-holiday festival features samplings from Virginia wineries and breweries, tastings from local restaurants, live music, maritime attractions, and a variety of artisan vendors.
