Now that the holidays are behind us, I’m ready for some winter fun. Ever the optimist, (it’s going to be 63 today and one of the trees in my yard is blooming), I thought I’d share my top five sledding spots in RVA. I prefer an inner tube to a sled, but even if you use a piece of cardboard, let your inner kid out to play for a while. Then afterward, march your adult self to a warm local pub for a congratulatory libation.
Forest Hill Park
All around one of the best sledding spots in Richmond. Easy to access, and a variety of hills for all ages.
4021 Forest Hill Ave
With a wide range of slope choices, Maymont has something for everyone. The park does close if they feel conditions are dangerous, so call before you go.
1700 Hampton Street
Bryan Park
Head for the Frisbee golf course after a good snow for a great run.
4308 Hermitage Road
Urban sledding at it’s best! Located behind the Ethyl Corporation building in downtown Richmond. Large hills, open spaces, and a great view.
South 2nd Street and Spring Street
Byrd Park
With over 380 acres to choose from, it never feels crowded. A great place for beginner sledders, and remember to bring some bread for the ducks and geese.
